Do Not Disturb….I’m Driving My Ford!

Posted in Automotive by rhoads on July 11, 2010

There isn’t a person out there over the age of 8, ok maybe 10, that hasn’t heard of the issue of Texting While Driving. 30+ states in the good ‘ole US of A have already set a ban on texting while driving. Now it is rumored that Ford plans to do something about it.

Ford has said to have added a “Do Not Disturb” feature to widely-popular and successful SYNC feature. It allows the driver to block select features while they driving. When the block is turned on the system will automatically block incoming calls and text messages coming into the phone that is paired with the SYNC system.

Additionally, Ford is also rumored to be adding a LockOut feature that prevents certain features of SYNC to work while the vehicle is in motion. These features may include but are not limited to: features that are not meant to be used while driving already (example: restaurant reviews, etc.), adding contacts, pairing a bluetooth enabled phone, typing on the screen and/or keyboard, playing, and playing video. A lot of the listed features are able to be accessed through the voice-activated system already built into the SYNC system.

Oh and it will only be available starting on the ’11 Edge and ’11 Lincoln MKX.

If this is confirmed, Ford has really got something here.
